| Special cold foil issue dramatically demonstrates new, cost-efficient single-pass commercial printing capability
manroland has published expressis North America with the goal of helping printers keep up-to-date on new manroland technology, products, services and upgrade opportunities to enhance their print business. This year, in concert with PRINT ’09, manroland will issue an early release of the magazine for all booth (#1129) visitors. This issue exemplifies value-added, leading edge technology applications. “From its front cover to the back, this special print edition visually demonstrates what we mean by ‘Innovation in Print’. You immediately see the value added and notice the difference it makes,” said manroland Inc. CEO Vince Lapinski. “That’s the reason why having early release copies for show-goers who attend PRINT ’09. The ability to cold foil and print over foil in one process is something no one else can do. The result is an added-value attraction not only for packaging and special projects, but also for commercial print applications. At the show, we will have several samples of how this can help commercial printers change their market.” Cold foiling is a special method of applying foil with adhesive to the coated paper sheet. manroland holds the patent for cold-foiling and printing ink over foil in a single-pass process with its PRINDOR in-line unit. What was a multi-task process now happens in one pass, greatly adding value for both the printer and consumer. Bringing it all to life with the latest issue of expressis North America is the result of collaborative efforts involving not only manroland, Inc., but Finlay in Bloomfield, CT, foil-provider Kurz USA in Lexington, NC, and paper supplier Appleton Coated, in Kimberly, WI. “Our parent company in Germany has partnered with manroland for several years on this whole process,“ said Myron Werner, Sales & Marketing Manager for Kurz USA. “Being able to apply foil in-register, in-line on your printing press takes away a second pass and greatly reduces the cost. This opens up design possibilities and provides a realistic cost basis for commercial printing. Finlay is really taking this into the commercial area, as shown in this issue of manroland’s expressis North America. “We provided KPS-OP foil for this project,“ continued Werner. “KPS is our primary product and this is the overprint version required when running UV. It really shows potential for foil applications in the market.“ “Appleton Coated is proud to be a part of expressis North America magazine,“ says Phil Cavalier, VP Marketing. “We wanted to try the new in-line foil technology for some time and this project allowed us an opportunity to see it demonstrated. We supplied Utopia Two Gloss Cover based on Finlay’s familiarity with and support of Utopia products. Collaborating with Finlay on our ad in the magazine challenged us to think about how color can be enhanced by foil.“ Printing the magazine came together at Finlay, which is run by brothers Kevin and Todd Kalagher. According to Todd, their 8-color ROLAND 700 HiPrint press with In-line Foiler PRINDOR foiling handled the project. Get your hands on a copy of expressis North America and see for yourself. |
